KOREAN BBQ & “SPIRIT OF JOHNY CARPENTER AWARD
BRINGS TOGETHER COMMUNITY
Lake View Terrace, CA: The 4th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner/Korean BBQ & “Spirit of Johny Carpenter Awards were held at All Nations Church, Friday November 17, 2006. 500 meals of delicious Korean BBQ were served to an audience that included over 200 guests from the community. The 2006 “Spirit” honoree’s were Cile Borman & the Pacoima Graffiti Busters.
Presenting the awards was Randy Horton who was Johny Carpenter’s “pin up boy” at the original Heaven on Earth Ranch. Council Member Wendy Greuel presented certificates on behalf of the city including recognition from Mayor Villaraigosa & Council Member Padilla. Board Member Julie Korenstein presented certificates from LAUSD. Also present were representatives from the Mayors office, Senator Alarcon & Asembly Member Montanez. Supervisor Antonovich
presented All Nations a certificate and a letter of recognition was read from the Governor.
Following the presentations was a magnificent concert with many of the churches world class talent performing including Grace Han on piano and their recently formed His Dream Youth Orchestra. Pat Walmisley also performed some stirring gospel songs.
The event was created to honor the legacy of the late Johny Carpenter whose original Heaven on Earth Ranch stood here for almost 25 years (1970–94). Johny taught physically & mentally challenged children/young adults how to ride a horse and every Thanksgiving, held a dinner for his children. The “Spirit” award was created to recognize those in the community whose works best exemplify what Johny did.
